Professor Eleftherios Iakovou
Dr. Eleftherios Iakovou is a Professor of the Laboratory of Statistics and Quantitative Analysis Methods, (Logistics and Supply Chain Management) (LASCM) of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Greece. Further, Prof. Iakovou has served as the Director of the Industrial Management Division (2007-2013) of the same Department. Prof. Iakovou was the President of the Greek Association of Supply Chain Management (EEL.BE) from 2005 to 2015, while he served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Alexandrian Innovation Zone S.A. from July 2010 to July 2013 and the Chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at AUTh. He also served as a Visiting Professor at the International Hellenic University, Greece. Dr. Iakovou received a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from AUTh and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He served first as an Assistant and then as a tenured Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial engineering of the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL (from 1992 till 2002).
His teaching, research and consulting interests include supply chain management, port management, intermodal logistics, inventory management, innovation, applied operations research, production systems, emergency response management, sustainable development and strategy development. Prof. Iakovou has published quite extensively more than 170 papers in top peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He is also a well-sought keynote speaker for a plethora of national and international events, while he has consulted extensively for a number of governmental and corporate organizations (including Fortune 500 companies) both in the US and in the EU, for more than two decades. Prof. Iakovou has served as a member of the National Committee on Logistics of the Hellenic Ministry of Transport and Communications and as a member of the Advisory Committee of EUREKA, the pan-European network for market-oriented, industrial innovation and R&D. Finally, he has been awarded as the coordinator of a European-wide consortium, an FP7-REGPOT three-year project (2012-2015) on the design and management of green supply chains for the agrifood sector.
